Western Australia: Margaret River Wineries
ByThe Margaret River area is a lovely region with a Mediterranean climate that’s on the dry side. Located in Western Australia’s lower southwest, it’s famous for surfing, wine, and being a great location for a weekend getaway or a long holiday. In fact, this region is one of the world’s best holiday destinations.
If you’re considering a trip to Margaret River, it’s one thing you’re not going regret. The mild climate has little variation between the seasons, meaning you’ll have few weather related interruptions. There are lots of great vineyards to visit, and the coastline is amazing - some of the best surfing beaches in Australia are located here.
A Margeret River getaway is a great way to relax and refresh yourself. There are lots of different activities to choose from - from spending time sunbathing or swimming on the area’s brilliant white beaches, surfing in the sparkling waters of the Indian Ocean, or enjoying some of the delicious food and world reknowned wines this region is known for.
It’s a sad fact that many people don’t make the trip down here on their visits to Perth. Whether it’s because they aren’t aware of the existence of Margaret River, or they know about it but write it off as not worth their time, they’re missing a really great experience.
The trip south from Perth is along a highway that doesn’t see a lot of use, and hasn’t got much heavy traffic. There’s plenty to see and many attractions along the way - just don’t forget why you came.
There are plenty of excellent accommodations and attractions once you get there; the area is especially well known for its wineries. This area might only be responsible for three percent of wine grape production in Australia, it creates twenty percent of the premium wines. Be sure to try some samples if you take a winery tour.
It doesn’t matter where you’d like to stay - a fancy hotel or luxury retreat, family accommodations or an adorable bed and breakfast. There are lots of options. Holiday rentals and great camping options are also available.
Currently, there are about ninety vineyards in the region, and over a hundred producers of grapes. You’ll find public tastings and tours, cellar door sales, and many other fantastic tourist opportunities at local wine producers large and small.
Of course, what’s available here is not all just wine, grapes and wineries, either. You’ll also get a chance to enjoy the local cheeses and other foods, as well as the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, as well as the area’s ocean views and empty beaches - Sugarloaf Rock and Meelup Beach are great places to check out.
Every trip to Western Australia should involve a visit to the Margaret River wine region. Check out the food, beaches, wines and other attractions. After all, there are plenty of great things to see and do, for a completely relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
