I Like Mine Shaken

by Lisa Condrey

There is a great deal to be said about the martini. There is
so much that you can do with the drink itself! You may even
find that while changing the drink itself you feel like the
different tastes must be something new altogether. There are
martinis that are mixed so that you could swear they were
virgin while on the other hand you could end up with a mere
hint of spice to your gin or vodka.

Besides the changes that can be made to the drink mixture
itself there are a number of things that can effect what the
end product can be. Martinis can be shaken or stirred.
Because of this the martini shaker itself is an essential
tool.

One would be surprised to discover the depths and tricks to
the proper use of the martini shaker. There?s more to using
this appliance than simple shaking. From the measuring of
the products that go into it to the pressure and intensity
of the shaking there is a way to abuse it.

The finishing touches added to a martini are important as
well. They add more than decoration, they are often part of
either the sleek sophistication or the carefree fun that
embodies the martini.

There is a certain air that is often lent to individuals
seen holding and drinking from martini glasses. The martini
itself is at times associated with individuals who are
wealthy, graceful, and/or dangerous. It is also thought of
as a sexy drink and thus the glass it is found in is
sometimes seen as a symbol for these traits.

Martini glasses come in a variety of colors and shapes. They
often lend a hand to the elegance and effectiveness of the
drink itself with twisted handles or floating cups.

You will often find ?zesty? garnishes within a martini.
Citrus, olives, and onion are not uncommon in this drink.

It?s commonly thought that these are the only things found
within martinis. But upon further research one may find that
there can be tons of other ingredients to the drink,
depending on the flavor the mixer is shooting for.

Looking at your drink you may be surprised to find that the
garnishes are serving more that the obvious purpose. They
could be there to alter the taste of the drink, to
compliment the color of the liquid in your glass, or to even
out the taste of alcohol. Sweets are often used for sweet
drinks.

All and all martinis are wonderful, no matter what kind of
mood you?re in. This is because they can be altered so much
that they can be smooth when you just want to relax or hard
when you want to let loose. There?s no end to the things you
can do with a martini! - 24338
