Bartending is a fun and exciting profession, but it takes skill with both drinks and people. The following tips are fairly common sense guidelines that anyone interested in the profession should know and follow.

1. Never discuss religion or politics. All it will do is lead to a fight or make people uncomfortable

2. Keep the bar clean. Wipe it down after you serve every drink, and keep the entire environment neat and tidy.

3. Know the trendy drinks. While you don’t have to have the entire drink recipe guide memorized, it helps to be familiar with the more trendy beverages of the day.

4. Learn about sports. People in bars will often be watching or talking about local sports events. If you understand what they are talking about, you can participate as well.

5. Greet everyone as they come in. Try and be attentive to new customers, and to say hello as soon as they enter the establishment.

6. Serve drinks by the base, not by the stem. Nobody wants to put their lips to a place where your hand just was. As you serve drinks, make sure you hold the glass by the bottom, away from where drinking will actually occur.

7. Personal hygiene is important. Make sure that you look neat and sharp, and that you don’t smell bad. You are part of the ambiance of the bar and so your appearance and personal attributes matter.

8. Pay extra attention to regulars and big tippers. While you should strive to treat everyone equally, someone who is a constant in the tavern, or who is willing to pay extra for extra service, should receive extra special attention from you.

9. Stay alert. In any establishment where drinking occurs, violence can erupt. Keep your eyes open, and try to spot trouble before it begins. If you can diffuse a fight with a few words it’s a lot easier than having to call the bouncer over.

10. Try to have fun. Bartending is a social position. If you look like you are having fun, other people will have more fun as well. Try to relax into the job, and enjoy meeting the people who enter the bar. Be friendly, light, and humorous, and your job will be a lot easier.

Bartending is a fun and challenging career, that allows you to work in an exciting atmosphere, making friends and acquaintances, and joining people during their most celebrated and joyous occasions. However the path to becoming a bartender can be daunting, with hidden challenges lurking in the shadows, and difficulties arising at every turn. However all you need is diligence, skill, and perseverance, and you can attain a profitable and enlightening career serving drinks to appreciative patrons.

It is a common misconception that you have to go to Bartending School and get certified to become a bartender. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most bartenders have no formal training at all, and many were simply promoted from lower level jobs such as waiter or bus boy.

However Bartending School and certification can help you on this career path in a variety of ways. First, it will give you some training in mixed drinks, and will help to familiarize yourself with the working of a bar. Second, the certification that you receive, while not worth that much on the job market, will at least show a potential employer that you are knowledgeable and have some basic knowledge of how the profession works, and the various recipes that are requested.

The most important thing that Bartending School can afford you is if they offer some sort of job placement. Many bartending schools will work with restaurants and bars, to help place successful students in entry level positions upon successful completion of the course. This can be a major boost, helping you to break the ice and get that all important first job.

However as stated earlier, it is not at all necessary to get training to become a bartender. The most common path to this goal is to get promoted. That means that you have to get a job working in a restaurant, or a bar. Preferably this job should be somehow related to the bar, or serving beverages. This can include being a bar back, or a bartenders assistant.

Once you have a position that is somehow related to the bar, you should work hard to prove yourself to your employers. Be diligent, work hard, and fill in any gaps that other employees may leave open. Whenever possible make yourself useful to the bartenders on staff, and try to learn as much from them as possible.

If you are looking for a new position as a bartender, one way to find a job is to do “the walk”. This is a common experience for wait staff and restaurant employees. It involves walking up and down the street, in the neighborhood where you live, and popping into every establishment, and simply asking if they need help. You should bring a resume that has any pertinent experience that you may have typed up neatly. Even if the place doesn’t need help right away, they can file your resume, and if a position opens up, they may call you.

Another version of “the walk” has you opening up the yellow pages, and cold calling every restaurant or bar listed asking for help. Always be polite, and respectful. When you call, try to speak to the owner or manager, as they are the ones who will make the ultimate decision about your employment possibilities.

Bartending can be a rewarding and lucrative position, allowing you to earn a good living doing something in a fun and active environment. However you have to be diligent, and willing to work your way up, in order to get a good position that will ultimately fulfill your goals.

If you are interested in a job that can potentially make you more than the standard minimum wage paid to most employees, then you are probably thinking about applying for a job as a bartender. When you are trying to get a job as a bartender, you should remember that the extra money you will make from tips can be dependent on more than the fact that you are serving drinks. The class of the establishment you are working in can make a great difference when it comes to the amount of money you can make from your bartending job. A Phoenix Bartending School can increase your chances for finding a high paying bartending job.

For this reason, it is highly recommended that you go to a bartending school to learn the type of skills you need to get the best bartending jobs available. If you are just starting out, it is unlikely that you will be able to land the highest paying bartending jobs in your area. This is why a bartending school can be such a great option. When you have the education that is necessary to provide the level of service the best employers require from their employees, you will find that you can easily acquire the bartending jobs that best suit your income desires.

Many people go to bars and try to obtain the highest paying jobs around as a bartender without acquiring any experience at all. These people generally discover that the only way they could get those high paying jobs is through working the low paying jobs at different bars.

When you go to apply to a bartending job without the necessary skills, you will find that you are going to have to resort to the lower paying establishments in order to increase your experience and your pay. This can take quite a bit of time. This is also why it is easier to simply go to a Phoenix bartending school to obtain the necessary skills you need before you start applying for bartending jobs.

If you have never heard of bartending school though, you are probably curious about the teachings offered by one of these schools. If you want to know more about the instruction that will be offered at your local bartending school, then you should know that they will teach you many different things associated with the profession of bartending. One of the most important lessons you will receive during your bartending instruction includes the ingredients that are required to make certain drinks.

You can also assist this learning process by buying your own drink handbook. If you take this handbook with you everywhere you go, and read it when you find yourself with an extra couple of minutes with nothing to do, you will find that the combinations will be ingrained into your memory in a much easier fashion.

Once you become a bartender, you will realize that your pay highly depends on the satisfaction your customers receive from your service. For this reason, another important piece of knowledge you will learn from your bartending school is about the type of service that you should offer your customers. Here, you will learn the many different techniques that can be used to increase the satisfaction your customers receive. You should pay great attention to these portions of your class in order to ensure that you make as much money as possible from the very first bartending job you maintain.

There are many other factors that will be taught in a Phoenix bartending school, but once you know how to make the many different drinks around, and you know the best methods for serving them, you are in a good position to become a great bartender.

We all love it when we head to a bar and wind up getting a show for our efforts. There is a significant difference between the bartender that works in a neighborhood pub and one that has been trained in the art of flair bartending.

There is an excellent opportunity to get treated to a show when watching a person with their flipping bottles and other bar accessories. A bartender that has been trained in this art, many times can put on a show while also serving a person their drink.

When you are ready to begin, you will need to make sure that you start out slowly and work your way up to more advanced tricks. You are not, in the first few tries, going to be able to compete with the old pros and dazzle guest with your wondrous skills.

Before you think that there is more to this than just flinging some bottles around, remember that it takes years to get your skills to the point that you are considered to be an effective and competent flair artist. You will need to make it a point that you practice often. You will want to practice in an open space with dummy bottles before trying anything made of glass or filled with actual liquor.

There are a few things that you will need to make sure you have when you are getting started in this type of bartending. Things like mock bottles and mats are going to be needed to make the most out of your flair practice and protect your spouse’s floors.

When you are practicing try to do so on the patio or deck and always have your quick mats down. You should also make sure that you are practicing with your pour bottles using the colored liquid recipes that you can get online. These recipes will show you how to make things that look and feel just like real liquors you will be suing later, but are just harmless colored water or other easily cleanable substances.

Flair bartending is a skill that will take some time to master. There is a lot that can be learned while you are in the process of becoming a flair bartender. When you master the skills that you need, there will be a whole new world opened up to you. It’s a terrific choice as a career or simply as a skill to use at parties to make things more interesting for you and your guests.

The unemployment rate, of late, is horrible. Thousands of Americans have been laid off or fired, and have had a near impossible time finding another job. Whether support yourself or a family, this is a difficult time for anyone to deal with. With the way things look, right now, there is no up-turn to this situation any time soon. Finding a supplemental income has never been harder, hence the reason many are looking to Phoenix Bartending School.

Why is bartending any better than other careers? With the decline in economy and social status, many turn to liquor. Because of this, liquor and alcohol sales have sky-rocketed. Sales have increased everywhere, stores, bars, restaurants, hotels, etc.

Having said this, becoming a bartender just might be more of a viable option than you thought. At a Phoenix bartending school you will have your license within no time at all. What does this mean for you? Simple, you will be job hunting within weeks / months. The job opportunities are endless; restaurants, bars, clubs, hotels, etc.

Check out your surrounding area, surely there are a number of restaurants, hotels, clubs, and / or bars. This gives you a wide variety of places to work from, all which hire throughout the year. Once you have completed your training, you will have had hands-on experience, the kind you get on the job. Not many other careers offer this.

On top of mixing drinks, in school, you get to enjoy the occasional drink as well. Think about it, someone has got to say whether it turned out okay or not. You get enough experience in the program that you will definitely know what you are doing when you find a job, and you will feel fairly comfortable with it too. The completion of such a program will give you a certificate of completion. Many ask, can I get a job without it?

Sure you can, but you are almost certain to find a job with one. If it comes down to you and your neighbor, one of which has a certificate of completion, the latter will get the job. Do you really want to leave that up to chance?

Whatever the reason for you reading this article and considering attending Phoenix Bartending School, rest assured it is probably the right choice. Whether you need supplemental, primary, or secondary income, this is a career that can take you places. You are not only nearly guaranteed a job upon completion of the program, but you will have fun with what you do.

Reduce the stress of planning an event by finding a quality caterer. Hiring a reputable and professional caterer can help reduce the level of stress you will go through while preparing for your event. This may sound easier said than done. Keep in mind that it is possible and there are ways to find a professional caterer, for any event you are preparing for, in any location you may be in.

Before you even begin looking for a caterer, figure out what you want. What kind of foods do you want served and what serving style do you want to utilize. You can choose from buffet, sit-down or consider your other options as well. When you have an idea of what you are looking for, it will make finding a match with a caterer a bit easier.

Once you have a clear idea of what you’re looking for, it is now time to get in touch with a few different catering companies. Inquire on whether they prepare their food in-house or order it ready-to-go from another company. You may often find that desert options are often brought in from another company. If this is the case, ask where they are coming in from.

When you are looking to do business with any sort of company ask your friends or families for leads. This is a great way to get an idea on where to start, because you are getting a lead from a person you presumably trust, which has already gone through the process. Ask about their experience with the quality of food, as well as the quality of service they were provided.

Once you have gotten a few leads, get in touch with these companies. You can often visit their websites, call or visit their location. Personal contact is preferred because you can actually get a sense on what their customer service is like. Also, you can find out about how willing they are to integrate your ideas into the menu.

After finalizing your decision on a caterer, help with the menu plans. Once you have finalized your menu, request a sampling of the menu. This will give you a chance to actually taste what will be served at your function. It will also give you a chance to tweak things you may not like.

There may be several caterers in your area, but the trick is finding a quality caterer from the bunch. Remember to ask your friends and family for recommendations. Follow these leads until you find a company that makes you comfortable with the quality of their food, as well as their customer service.

Finding a top quality caterer can be a problem, no doubt! Houston Catering is affordable not to mention reliable. We’ve got the best inside scoop on catering Houston .

Bartending can be an incredibly fun job, but there’s a lot more to it than just pouring drinks and passing out beers at an all-week party. A bartender must be many things to their patrons, not just a drink mixer. Here are a few things to consider before jumping into this line of work…

Have You been a Designated Driver?

One of your main jobs as a bartender is to be a referee. You’re the one who tells people when they’ve had enough, you’re the one that tells unruly patrons to take it outdoors if they start raising their voices. It’s your job to call a cab or take someone’s car keys when they’re too drunk to drive, you’re the one that calls the police when things get out of hand, and if someone gets a little sick, you tell them where the restroom is so they can throw up. You don’t just serve drinks, you also handle the situation when someone’s had a little too much.

Can You Drink Responsibly?

Typically, you do not drink on the job (but maybe you have one or two while cleaning up for the night), but, now and then, you may be asked to take a shot with a table. So, when you drink, can you take one shot and then go back to what you were doing? Or do tend to drink, and drink, and drink when you drink? You don’t make money by drinking up your inventory, and you don’t keep a job that way, either. Few bars expect you to NEVER drink, but all of them want a responsible, mature bartender.

Ever Worked the Line?

You ever watch one of those cooking shows like Top Chef? These shows usually bring together a bunch of culinary academy students who really know how to put great meals together, but… Since all their experience is academic, they fall apart under the pressure of the line. Mixing drinks for friends is one thing, but a little fast food experience is what you need to be able to pour drinks quickly, and correctly, when you’ve got a line of twenty people all waiting for their cocktails. Try getting a job at a burger joint for a month for training. If you can’t handle it, you won’t be able to handle bartending, either.

When you head to your local establishment, bartending can be a lot harder than it looks. Most patrons simply believe a bartender just stands behind the bar and serves drinks to whoever needs them. However, this is one of the most rewarding and entertaining jobs out there today. Just remember, a bartender has to know how to serve various drinks, be personable, attentive, and entertain everyone around them. These little traits are how the best bartenders make the most money. You can as well if you follow the tips we’re about to share with you.

Knowing Your Drinks

One of the worst moments for a bartender is when a guest walks up to the bar and asks for a drink that you don’t know how to make. Every bartender goes through this at least once in their career (which is okay), but you can minimize these moments by becoming more familiar with the various ingredients that go into each drink. It doesn’t matter if you’re making a Long Island Iced Tea, a Texas Tea, Margaritas, Martinis, Bahama-Mamas, Pina Coladas, Daiquiris, or anything else. The more you know the better, and this especially holds true for shots. If by chance you study, study, study and still don’t know, ask your new guest. They may give you a little flack, but it’s a great way to break the ice and make it exactly how you want it.

Be Personable

Adding a little personality to the mix can have a major impact on the amount of money you make. Keep in mind everyone is different, so you have to bring out variations all the time. One group might want a comedian behind the bar, but the next couple may want a more informative bartender with a professional appeal. Just think of it as if you’re putting on a show. Who knows, you may win an Oscar before your career is over. Oh, and if you want your guests to stay longer and purchase more you can manipulate the situation so all your customers interact with each other.

Learn How to be Attentive for Everyone

The third and final tip to becoming an effective bartender is to be attentive. This doesn’t just mean being personable and getting the drink orders right; it also means being there for anyone who needs you. Sometimes people go to the bar because they want to escape something. They may be getting laid off at work, their spouse may be cheating on them, or they may just be having a bad day. An effective bartender acts as a counselor to those customers that need counseling. You’d be surprised how you can help a person just by listening to them and giving them a little bit of advice. And it’s amazing how doing this can increase your tips exponentially.

These are just a few tips that will help you become the most effective bartender possible so that you can make the most money possible; which should be the goal of any person who chooses a career behind the bar.

Making money as a bartender can be complicated. If you know how to mix all the drinks and work with customers in a friendly manner, you have a good chance of earning a living through this position as long as you know where the highest paying bars and restaurants are. There are always bartenders who got into the business with no knowledge or skill and who struggle to make a living. If you are careful and find out where the best paying jobs are, then you could be one who actually makes a good living off of bartending.

The starting point for acquiring bartender skills is to learn how a variety of different drinks are made. The more drinks you know and the faster you can mix them, the more in demand you may find yourself as a bartender. Some people do get their start by obtaining a low paying position and learning on the job, but this is a slow way to get to the top and you will earn very little money while picking up the skills. Luckily, there are books and websites out there that make it possible to learn drinks on your own.

If you spend some time searching online you will find some schools and training courses which will teach you everything that is needed to be a successful bartender. Some will even help you find the best paying jobs once you finish the training! Just make sure to find an affordable resource that will not take too much time or money investment.

Do you even know how to look for a higher paying bartender job? Most beginners in the field don’t, but a good training course online will teach you valuable tips in this area as well. For instance, you may learn about opportunities for paid training positions or jobs which accept online applications. You will even be told why job ads are just a waste of time and you should be applying directly to establishments that pay the higher wages and bring in the highest tippers.

While finding open bartending positions can be difficult in some regions, it is even more difficult in most cases to get someone to hire you right out of school or fresh from online training. This is where a good training program becomes invaluable. They will teach you everything you need to know to secure that first job, starting with how to prepare your resume and find the best open positions right down to how to get through an interview successfully.

If you want to make a living and draw consistent money to pay the bills, you will have to focus on landing a higher class job in a reputable establishment. Many bartenders find that hotel bars and high class restaurants naturally attract higher tipping customers. If you are willing to get out and travel a bit, you may also want to look into cruise line positions.

Finally, you have to learn how to gain confidence when working behind the bar. Those who are confident carry themselves differently and are able to secure more high tips than those who are not confident. You will also be more efficient behind the bar which means you spend less time working and earn more for that time. Without this confidence in your skills, making a living bartending will be much harder.

With a lot of ambition and determination to gain skill and become a success, you can make your dream of earning a living behind the bar come true. Learn the required skills and gain that confidence, and you will find yourself living the bartender life before you know it!
