Earn Extra Cash with a Bartender Job
Do you need to learn a new skill that can help you double your current income? Do you enjoy talking with people and hanging out? Can you present your professionally and handle yourself responsibly? If you answered yes to these questions you should consider a bartending job. People like you get bartending jobs like this everyday. As a beginner you’ll be able to make $300 or more per week, part time.
Do not believe the myth that you have to have experience in order to get a bartending job. It is simply not true. I have shown hundreds of people how to land their first bartender job with absolutely no previous experience. If you are a people person, able to learn quickly and react on the fly you will make an excellent bartender. Bar managers know this and look for those qualities more than they look for experience.
Let’s think for a moment about what job skills are necessary for a bartender. Here are a few that you may already have from previous jobs that would apply to being a bartender. Problem solving is one. This is something that we all must perform at any job that we have. No matter what, this skill is needed everywhere we go. Conflict resolution is another. In any atmosphere where there will be drinking, there is likely to be conflict. Luckily, this skill is a requirement of most other jobs as well. Customer service is another. Most everyone has worked in customer service before, so this one is a given.
Those are just a few of the skills that you may already have from previous jobs. Be sure to type those skills up on your resume. Leave all unnecessary skills off of your resume that may not relate to the job. This just takes up space, and can sometimes insult the person who is reading the resume. They know the difference between the skills that are needed, and a bunch of babble that has just been put down to take up space in order to make it look nice. Make sure not to waste your time with that. Only put what is needed and you will have a better chance at getting your first bartending job.
You should include a good cover letter with your bartender resume. I like cover letters that tell a story. Too many cover letters start off with, I am writing in reference to your blah, blah, blah. Those letters put the reader to sleep. Show the reader a unique situation where you rose to the occasion on the job or in your life. When you tell a story that highlights your skills you catch the readers attention and get them to keep reading. Your only goal should be to get them to read your resume. A good story will convince them to do just that.
Making drinks is only a small fraction of what you will do as a bartender, and it is an easy skill to learn. I am not talking about spinning bottles or juggling glasses but knowing the standard drinks and making them well. Expert Village has an excellent video series on how to make drinks and learn bartending techniques. You can find it online and practice at home. But don’t worry about fully developing this skill, you will learn it mostly on the job.
I can’t stress enough how little you should worry about your ability to actually make drinks. Yes it is a skill that you will need to master. But the truth is that most bars only serve about 15-20 different drinks. Once you know how to count your pour and use the different mixers you will be a master mixologist. Start by checking out some videos online and picking 5 well known drinks to master. That will be enough to know before you actually start the job so concentrate mostly on the other ideas in this article on how to get that job.
Right now, doubling your day job income probably seems impossible. But I have seen it happen tons of times. Bartending part-time can put immediate cash in your pocket and help you get through these tough times. If you just truly decide that you want to do it, believe in yourself, follow this advice and stay persistent, you will get a bartending job. Good luck.
One of the myths of getting bartending jobs is that you need to know someone. Well, now you do. Brian has helped people from coast-to-coast learn how to become a bartender and get their first bartending job.
